6.1 Hunt day

It's three days later

 

Weather foggy. Moon waning Crescent with four days to New Moon.

 

Around the lodge kennels, horses are groomed and being mounted.

 

Those of the party are Eryn, Umbert, Kylie, and CiedPod. The latter are pillion up behind Umbert.

 

Has Ajiwe got the approval he wanted yet? Yes.

 

Has the vicomte gotten a message back to his mystic no and it's not that sort of mystic.

 

Has the heir hired an Assassin specialist , no and he wants to be in at the kill

 

But we can't just jump to the scene

Eryn rides expertly but she  loses track of the vicomte

Umbert misses riding by 2 but has a sense of where to go

Kylie misses riding by 3 but has a sense of where to go

 

They are only a round late

Boars have a battle move of 50, so they close to the charge immediately

The 5 Boar inflict 22 damage on the vicomte's 43 hp, killing his horse and wounding him for 9

 

The vicomte splits his 9 d8s into extra force (3) and defense 3. The other 3 are cancelled by the 3hd of the boars.

He roll 4 5 7 and 8. The 8 is nothing, the 7 is stopped by Boar hide. So only 9 dmg, no Boar is down.

Boar ML NA - no losses

 attacks of 10d4, scoring 15, with low rolls that only a 1 or 2 can block. The vicomte's reaction d8s are 227 so he blocks 4dmg. His hp are down to 23.

While Umbert dismounts and the halflings leap down.

 

Lets take a moment to see which spell Kylie has: d12 on the Advanced tome, 6 Magic Missile, d6+1, 150' range. She dismounts and hits Boar no. 5 doing 6 damage.

 

Eryn makes a warhorse check and is under STR. She scores 6, with her warhorse adding 5. It's the same Boar the vicomte wounded so one down

 

Umbert watches the two powerful fighters who don't seem to be helping. Is this the hit? He readies Charm Person, judging (INT) 06, that the heir is higher level than the champion so he uses Charm Person on him.

Level 6 fighter: has a 1 penalty on SV v spells. He makes an 08 with that penalty and that's not enough!

"The man who greeted us is a friend" Umbert assures the halflings as they bend bows.

 

"Is this how you wanted it son?"

"Not exactly but its good enough. Listen, the huntsman is calling the hounds away father. Just you and that random... girl"

Round 2: the characters plus champ are now grouped with the vicomte. Vicomte 3, boars 2.

 

The Vicomte does the same split.

His attacks are 3444, excellent results. He kills a second Boar, number 2.

Eryn has her cut blocked by boarhide.

The champion has 2 spare HD. He uses them for extra strike power, scoring 238 on #3.

Kylie now looses her bow, and the halflings theirs. 543 great results. But they are spread around on 3 4 and 5. #3 is down to 5hp, #4 at 9, #5 at 4.

Boars: ML 8 of 9, they keep fighting.

They attack the vicomte only! Their attacks are 323213. The vicomte rolls a 2 with his 3d8, blocking a wound. But 12 get through. He is on 11hp.

 

Round 3: party 3, boars 1

Movement is limited to maneuvers to get shots in safely. Umbert will use sling.

Kylie, CiedPod and Umbert: three effective, 1 on 3 and 2 on 5, all 2 dmg each. Those last two drop the #5 boar.

The vicomte swings to defense with 7d8. He scores 272, killing #3.

Eryn severs #4 leg with 6 dmg! It has 1hp.

The champ finishes it.

 6.2 leave it to Xantu

Let's go back to those not on the rescue mission.

A 1 is party business and not related to the coup

A 2 is being distracted by the heirs hype men

A 3 is taking a bureaucracy based approach

A 4 is taking a domestic based approach

A 5 is directly appealing to authority to arrest the heir

A 6 is deputizing all manner of authority to arrest the heir

So when the heir reconnects with his hype men, the loyal banneret knight has shown up with enough men? Yes.

By the way: why don't I mention a baron, why am I jumping from vicomte to knight - since finding that the vicomte's own lodge is really close to Fort Stoutheart, it's impossible for a lower rank to have land held from the vicomte between those places. That means that knights hold their lands just around here, directly from the vicomte.

Meanwhile Jack tries to drag Xantu (and Ajiwe? 5 yes) into getting ready to flee.

As itcturns out this wont be needed but how does this go when hype men ar around.

Jack CHA: 11, a miss by 5. Quite serious.

Xantu reads the sitch WIS 03

He's got along with the men so tries to smooth matters CHA 18 gives offense.

However this only drops reaction of retainers from 10 to 8.

The agility contest involves balancing drinking horns, the winner is he that walks farthest with the full horn held in his mouth without spilling more than a few drops.

Jack wins on both distance and least spilt.

With +2 the retainers ate still 09, unsure.

The huntsman and hounds find less noble quarry and evening finds the hunting party back at the lodge.

As the heir looks for any sign of great success he is snapped up and placed in the coal cellar in chains before his own knights can react. (6)

6.3 Has much time elapsed 4 yes but only a day and night

The vicomte has gained advantage 2d3, 5hp.

He recognizes and acknowledges the service done him by the adventurers. Since Ajiwe had no role in events he is merely an onlooker.

In the meantime the champ sir Iain has saved v Charm Person, but was always under arrest in a different cell.

Is he to be executed no and... Vicomte intends to show him mercy.

Rewards; is money enough yes but names are written for future and a few rights are also deeded.

The spider components are sold off for 412 gold coin as a special reward,

Surplus horses (they now have 1 barded and 6 regular, which is about perfect) can be sold to the vicomte stables.

Bounties: 1 hobgoblin 1 false knight 11 brigands, 540 gold coins.

Shopping: are all usage d able to be restored yes

Ajiwe's hire: naturally Ajiwe proposes that they and he return together, they are still on the clock.
