Monastery fight part 1
Chance of goblin sentry only on a 6. I roll a 6! Distance 20'
Neither are surprised or both are.
Round 1 inits party 4 goblin 3
Tad has a try: note that all villagers count as improvised with a crossbow. He utterly fails. "You still have it locked. Step out the way now" - Xantu chugs down the hall and shatters the goblins head rolling a nice 3 and STR Upgrade +2.
The party appears to have a clear way through. Hear noise; both halflings creep forward and listen at doors. Are there any enemy no. Their hear noise rolls are OK, they signal 'clear' and the party order now resets.
Wide-passage: xantu/Eryn, Luz/Cis, jack/ingle/umbert tad/Yen, Kylie, CiedPod
The next "node" of danger comes as the party must choose between crossing an open space and using a hallway that leads to the chapel.
Goblins may hear or see them.
Stealth: half the party fail, so are the goblins alert yes but distracted. Range 20, surprise characters are surprised.
Surprise round: there are six gobs armed with all melee d6 weapons. They charge into the party
1 at the van 2 van and 2nd rank 3 rear 4 rear and 2nd last rank 5 middle 6 all around
I roll 4 and those attacked are Kylie and CiedPod.
2 gobs v Kylie one wound, 2dmg.

Round 1 inits characters 2 goblins 3
Seeing they are winning the goblins keep striking. Neither gets past Kylie's armor. Cied takes 2 wounds of 2, she is down 6 and has 8hp remaining. Pod is hit twice for 5 total he is down 7 and has 3hp remaining
Will Tad shoot into combat? Yes but at the goblins fighting Kylie. Will Yen? No and backs off to get to better range.
Tad: surprisingly accurate, a goblin is hit for 2.
Ingle steps in, sweeping his baton at that same gob. The baton glances off Kylie's shield. Umbert stabs his dagger, a goblin fighting Cied takes 2dmg. Now Jack maneuvers round, killing a goblin attacking Pod.
It's now up to Luz with handaxe. She finishes the gob Tad wounded.
Eryn tries scanning the field. She is allowed a d8 risk and does not lose it, but nor does she work out any info.
At the end of the rpund i will ask if another bunch of goblins are arriving.
"We're too easy to surround! Pull back to the last doorway!" - Xantu
Let's now go over to the three desperately fighting for their lives. Pod faces one. He needs to go fully defensive and does so.
Cied is facing two goblins. Like pod she needs to back off. She whips her bow into the gob's eyes, scoring a painful blow and stepping back to bow range. The other goblin gets a cut at her but this slides off her armor as she is using dex to retreat.
Kylie has no fear of a single goblin and her blade blurs, its head flies off, she swings onto the two nearest.
End of round. Are more goblins arriving no but they are near
Round 2. Inits 3 even
Goblin ML 10, the vastly outnumbered pair plus one wounded flee, as they do so several characters get a free strike. Kylie kills one, Jack another. Yen now has that clear shot and kills the wounded one!
"Pull back here!" Xantu has been checking where the goblins came from. They've been looting a room and it looks defensible.
"Come, pod, cied, you are cut about... anyone else?" Ingle preps the staff of healing. Kylie shakes her head.
Pod: 4 back, he is 7 of 10.
Cied: 7 back, she is back to 14 of 14.
Round 3 check and round 4 check are clear. Although goblins are around, they have not scoured back in here.
Round 5 6 7 the party attempts a more rounded defense. The halflings are armed with handaxes and all villagers arm with goblin weapons or knives.
Ingle and Umbert are in the middle with the unarmored 3 villagers, Kylie and ciedpod are last and eryn xantu and Yen are in front.
Jack is placed just behind the front line.
The next chokepoint has six more goblins. Hear noise: no. Stealth from the party, an even worse attempt. Distance 30' surprise characters are surprised again !!
These goblins are not prepping wrecking tools to break into a cellar. Instead they are guarding, to make sure noone gets past. But they are overconfident and do not bother to sound an alarm. They leap into the party attacking all along the line, aiming at the least armored first.
Umbert is cut fir 2 then 5 he is down to 3 of 10hp. A 3rd goblin can't quite get to him so cuts at Cis, doing 4 dmg and killing her instantly. A 4th goblin chops at Tad, scoring a nick and leaving him on 1hp, and both remaining goblins strike at Luz, one maxing off but the other killing her.
Round 9 inits characters 4 goblins 6
The goblins know in theory this is the chance to run for more. Do they? No. The goblin with the best vantage on Umbert hits him again, umbert is on 1hp. The other stabs ingle for 2. Next, the goblin that killed Cis chops at Yen, maxing off. The 4th goblin stays on Tad, finishing him: the 5th goblin sees the halflings signals to #6 and those two attack one each. Pod is maxed off, cied is stabbed for 4 and falls to 10 of 14.
Does Cied parry? She has a spare HD and rolls her d6, scoring a 4, so yes, she parries. No hp lost!
Footing has become treacherous for Ingle Umbert and Yen. Yelling the key dangers to his front line Ingle grabs umbert and dives out, risking a cut: he takes a brutal 5 from his own and that drops him to 7 of 14.
[At about this point Jack, who is very close to the 2 squishies, attempts to deflect the blow that fell on Infgle. I rate this as needing both a maneuver (d20 roll low) and a HD check, roll on or below the wound.
But Jack fumbles with a nat20 and slips in the blood. Luckily there are no spare gobs to skewer him!]
Umbert's would-be killer maxes off from the surprise move (that Ingle performed).
Yen fights fully defensive and slips as she backs towards a wall.
Did the goblin get an advantage cut? Yes and... as a reaction, as though Yen had turned to flee. The goblin rolls snakeyes, a crit with the advantage. Yen is dead.
Now Kylie spins to support Pod and Cied and kills a goblin with a clumsy hack. By chance, it was Pod's. Pod and Cied are now freed to take on hers. Pod kills it deftly, though Cied fumbles. At the least-bloody end of the shambles Eryn and Xantu check on each other to establish who is doing what, then Eryn strides back and sunders Ingles gob. She now faces Umbert's. Xantu whips his warhammer through Yen's goblin's defenses sending it reeling backwards bleeding out.
Are more goblins arriving? Yes. Three reinforcements arrive next round.
Round 10 inits characters 5 goblins 4
"Make it count" Eryn snaps to Kylie, who pays close attention to the layout at Eryn's words. These goblins are in a chokepoint where missiles can be used. "Halflings to high ground" Kylie encourages, chopping the next-to-last goblin down. Eryn boxes in the last goblin and slices its head off. Xantu swings into the original path and gets set as the next goblins charge. Again they have no missile weapon, and all three slam into Xantu's fortresslike defense.
Are more goblins arriving no and the others are down in cellar level
Round 11: During the last round Ingle and umbert grabbed up any vital items they coukd see, such as the bow and crossbow, and scrambled put of the fight. Neither has been healed. The halflings secured any other important bits and began climbing the monastic furniture and statues to get up to where those six goblins had concealed themselves.
Inits: characters 2 goblins 3. A goblin scores a nick on xantu.
Eryn and Kylie stab past the dwarf, each through a goblin skull.
"Good luck Umbert" ingle prays and uses the staff and it's a moderate 4 back, umbert is on 5 of 10hp.
Can the halflings get a shot? No but next round.
Round 12: characters 5 goblin 4
Cied's arrow slams home a second before Pod's, and the fight is over.
