rollohi-ch518-script

Welcome back to the great company making its stand on the bank of a river, facing what appears to be a last roll of the dice by the Orc Chief as he commits himself and his hearthguard to one great charge. Is this like William the Conqueror's last cavalry charge at Hastings? Or is it more despot throwing his life away and that of his followers because he cannot bear to live defeated? Round eight. Spell declarations. Umbert declares Ventriloquism. Kylie declares Web. Initiatives. Even! Crucially, that means that the defenders with missile weapons can loose them. I'll allow one volley above the pile of dead into the hearthguard, though not the orc chief. And the halflings will also get their volley as the orc chief runs in. Halfling volley. 10 damage. Shortbows. Another 10 damage. Elion. 4 damage. Crossbows. 4 damage. That's a total of 28. The heavily wounded Hearthguard falls dead, leaving 7, and they have taken wounds. Their hit points are now 13 and 13, which is full. 9, 9...

rollohi-ch517-script

When we last left the great company, it had withstood two waves of attacks in defense against a multitude of orcs and allies of the Orc Chief.  Great must be the Orc chief's wrath, for he is determined to avenge the insult to his honor and punish the miscreants who robbed him of his toys and his wealth, and perhaps also of some of those attachments written at great length from the Chaos Dwarf-Lord Masters. At the very end of last episode, he ordered the human cleric and his five human fighter retainers to attack. With a shrug, he allows the last of his non-elite orcs to go with them. Somewhat in despair, but unable to say no, the human cleric pleads that the hobgoblin soldiers also come with them. Although I haven't rolled his charisma, it has to be better than ten, and so when I roll a ten on a d20, I'll allow that.  Irritated and checking back at his orc shaman in case that individual has a purpose for the hobgoblins, the orc chief gives the order. Four hobgoblins will jo...

SRPN Dice-chain: Link 14 complete

SRPN: the dice chain What this is: a Frankenstein's Monster of chapters of fantasy drama. Each chapter is created by a different member of the Network. Each chapter features a core of the same characters set in the same kind of world, roughly in the same geography. The story so far The original subjective reality is this: a mature knight, Sir Aristan, is granted Chevalier status and the manor of Gant, in the county of Gant, along the New Road. Impoverished, he travels only with his page-turned-squire, Ivar. This leap in rank is owing to Aristan's loyal service to good Queen Rhiannon dealing with a recent revolt by one Morlaine. Almost immediately however, Aristan is challenged to single combat and captured by a Grey Knight who proves to be his comrade-turned-traitor, Sir Buckvine, a knight renowned for his size and strength. Ivar is thrown in chains alongside Aristan. Ironically they seem to be imprisoned in the decayed Gant Manor itself, a place 15 miles from the duel. Now t...

SRPN Link 14+handover

Link 14! Engine used: Mythic GME 2e RPG System used: OSE including Advanced OSE. Other systems or resources, particularly for Dr Pooley's powers, may be called in. Chaos is 4. [My logic is it double-dropped from 8 right down to 6 in link 11, then to 5 in link 12, then to 4 by the end of link 13.] Threads open:  Recover swords, armor, mounts. Potentially avenge wrongs on Dr Pooley. Bring news of Morlaine's survival and the threat, to the Queen's representative. Return to duty [of the respective baronies] Chaos check d10: 8. No change to scene. But, a couple of things to set up. Because of what has occurred previously, the true health (hp) of the two knights is unknown. They both "imagined" themselves to be fed adequately. Grell however spoke of only slipping them some water plus joy-juice. If they have truly been out of food for a week or even two (Buckvine having been taken longer) each has lost 6 to 11 hp. Is that true? (Likely) 42 yes. Aristan is on 7hp, Buckv...

rollohi-ch516-script

Last episode, the great company, heavily burdened, left the chasm. Almost immediately, it is assaulted by thouls. These, while not entirely recognized by the party, are dealt with effectively. And those not already incinerated by Umbert's fireball are put back upon the ashes and further burnt. The company has only suffered one paralyzed retainer, Mesk: and he soon recovers as it marches very slowly because it is heavily encumbered, north of the river.  It is following the river in order to get to the tollbooth that marks the boundary and entry to the barony that surrounds New Jhay. One encounter in the forest may be a coincidence. Two looks very much like a pattern. The company marches on, dragging helpless women and heavy baggage such as armor with it. As the first blush of dawn peeks through the thick forest, behind them, they see ahead of them clearings and glades. They are coming to the forest fringe. From here, it's a relatively short march to the Tollbooth. But in the g...
