Rollohi-ep19-script
It has been a frustrating stay for pod and cied. Each wants to pamper the other but they are nervous about the vast treasure they are supposed to be minding.
Pod sneaks off to buy rubbing oil for Cied and... she misunderstands what he plans to do with it. I will spare you the slapstick comedy, but that's our halfling pair busy for the time being.
By contrast Eryn has been enjoying the quiet day. [2nd day, waxing half] She has money and begins to develop her own contacts, but I'll leave those aside since we have no need to learn anything about that here and now. I do double-check and confirm with a yes-and, my own impression of Eryn that she is self-sufficient and is not the type to carouse or seek some kind of thrill.
Ingle gets a note from the Acolyte. This is a concern, because the last he saw of the man, he was headed away west. He warns Eryn (who now wears her +1/+2 v lycan sword and the baron's heavy armor) that the polite note he received may mean trouble. "Don't loom but don't be out of scream range"
"Does he outrank you?"
"Oh no, my calling to armed monster hunting places me ahead of clerkly types"
"Whats the issue then"
"Sometimes clerkly types are agents for very senior rank clergy"
The two meet at the Gryphon. It's New Jhay's best, which is not saying much. The main dining hall is a testament to dwarven craftsmanship, with heavy oak tables and benches, and a massive stone hearth that always has a fire roaring. The air is thick with the scent of roasted meats, fresh-baked bread, and the sweet aroma of cider.
We'll picture Eryn doing her best to blend in at a secluded table while Ingle and Solace meet in a small separate room.
Reminder of Br Solace's true name and stats:
Xya Neaaf. INT 14 WIS 12 CHA 09
The acolyte, Solace, presents as a mild-mannered and devout young man. He has a gentle, almost timid demeanor, with a perpetually downcast gaze and a soft voice. Those eyes however, miss nothing. He's fairly tall and slender, with a clean-shaven face and neatly cropped brown hair.
Does he have news of use? No and his questions are a danger.
The two fence verbally with one another and then it's time to take this to the attributes.
Ingle still has wis 15 and cha 12.
Inquisitor Solace is int heavy. As we've seen, his int is 14, wis is 12, and cha is 09.
Ingle: fails with just on WIS, and misses cha by 5.
Solace: fails hopelessly on WIS and just succeeds cha with an 08
He reads Ingle's determination and confidence, but not any hidden truth, and his lips bare snarling teeth: if I can't convince you, your career may be short.
Ingle is shaken and he makes a ML check. 07! He's hanging on.
Wiping sweat away, he leaves without revealing anything about Eikpe. He gives the nod to Eryn that there is no immediate danger!
That night, the other four return and Jack avails himself of the Staff of Healing: 4hp back. He is well pleased and there is quite a lot of bragging to be heard from Xantu, including how Jack vaulted in and killed an ambusher. Kylie says nothing and wanders off.
Umbert excuses himself: he has a fascinating contact in New Jhay and we will learn more of her next.
19.3 Umbert's Date "Mertz"
To be clear in the meta sense, Umbert has wandered off to activate a reserve contact from the last time he was in New Jhay and he and the other lads were up to mischief. an unnamed silver haired storyteller she was then.
Does she know where he might research his level 2 spell. Yes and also knows of relics of great power that might be of interest to Ingle.
The name of this mysterious veiled and silver haired woman is Omerza, though she prefers the more masculine Mertz
Other than that foible and her preferred gender, she is as she appears to be. Her alignment is Lawful.
To her, Umbert is a semi-useful contact. So in answer to his New Jhay question she refers him to Yibh Espeque, who should favor him with access to tomes of magic.
But for now, she will post for a scroll he can copy.
19.4 Kaelen delivers
The first day of waxing gibbous is nearly about to break when Kaelen in person and with a brace of elite guards brings a heavy bundle through to the inn.
This expensive adventuring gear replaces the worn-down ordinary armor and accoutrements the characters have been wearing, but not magic armor or gear.
Its value is high.
Eryn's new gear is appx 80 gold worth, Xantu about the same. Since Kylie doesn't need too much extra she gets somewhere around the 50 good mark and that is much the same for Jack and Ingle. CiedPod receive really fine quality supple armor and new exploring and fighting kit worth about 200 each.
"I left a fine quality lance out in the stables," Kaelen tells Eryn. "And you'll find three fine riding ponies and tack."
Ingle decides not to tell Kaelen about he and Umbert planning to slip out of town away from Br Solace. She is the Lawful servant of the vicomte and might not be able to overlook it. Instead he turns to jack once she's gone with good wishes all round.
"I think you said, the Thieves Guild is well organised here"
19.5 Hidden Springs again... and ill tidings
It has become urgent to leave New Jhay, and at speed, without letting the acolyte Solace become aware. The party reaches out, via Jack, to Jax the juggler. It won't be quite as easy to slip out, but money changes everything. Roll 1d4. 3000 gold coin move to the local Thieves Guild. Late that same night the party finds its way along the byroad, which leads south-east out of New Jhay.
Has anyone learned anything useful about the road? No. So at that same place, they swing at right angles and ride single file for the eyebrow ridge. It is the first watch of night, of the final day of waxing half. The morning will be day 1 of waxing gibbous.
Encounter on a 6
Weather: im rolling the jon cohen d20 again. 14, pleasant.
Moon: the entire half moon phase has been taken up since they heard Jack's idea. Now he is fit to ride. It is day 1 of waxing gibbous. In 34 nights, the fall solstice occurs and is celebrated with a great harvest festival. Kaelen's elite gear has been promised for
Getting lost: on a 1. No.
Its a familiar but strange feeling: they rode to New Jhay in the dark and they are fleeing in the dark.
Watch 2.
Encounter (night/Grasslands) is it stirges again? No, it's a centaur.
Do centaurs dominate the hanging valley? No and this is a wanderer. Is this a family? No and it's a solo wanderer.
Attitude: 6, suspicious and inclined to be hostile.
Range 120yds
Surprise; on a 1 or 2, character then centaur. Yes characters are surprised. The centaur has no special reason to approach them right? No. They simply do not know they pass close to one, nd the wind is from them to the creature.
Passing through the turn west to broken ground around the plateau: no encounter.
Completing the journey: is all well at Hidden Springs? No but minor issues, nothing major. Ajiwe is well? No. What actually ill? Yes. Not fatal though? Yes and... maybe Eikpe is to blame? Yes but in her defense... will he linger? Yes.
Is this the exact same poison Jack just learned about? No. But it's likely ixegenia will be able to make a remedy.
Welcome home!
Well, we are both richer... and poorer.
Yeah we had to pay a magic sword worth of bribes to get away from an inquisitir, a Solace.
Eikpe? you ok? She does flinch but cover it well.
With food brought in by the Hidden Springs guards there is enough for everyone. It's a simple celebration but all there feel blessed by the return of all eight heroes.
By the way... did Jory ever return? Yes, he brought back some workers and supplies. He has set up a labor exchange too.
Gyoza never came through or did he? No, seems his job with the seeker took him away.
Travelers through over the past fortnight: two sets. Both were using the lodge forest road from the west.
On a 1 yormsley
On a 23 merchant
On a 4 a knight
On a 5, a vicomte rep
On a 6, adventurers
The first is a tax official from the vicomte. He travels with a good retinue. His brief was just to make a roll of the establishment. He is actually still here, out of concern for Ajiwe. He has training in medical matters as part of his education.
His name is Yeapich
The second was merchants. They were disappointed, as they had no way of knowing Ajiwe had persuaded four merchants to establish their trade here. They moved on the next day, east.
(Kylie picks up the heavy arrowheads from brunhilda)
Traces of relic weapons: yes on a d4 (because there are no certainties)
The relic is spoken of by:
1 Eikpe
2 Yeapich
3 Brunhilda
4 willow
5 jory
6 faelen
It's a 3, brunhilda. The environment she speaks of is
1 marsh
2 empty Grasslands
3 lake/river
4 forest
5 Highlands
6 plateau
She speaks of a lake. Or more specifically a stream that feeds the lake. According to the story, a tribe of lizard folk revere a mighty weapon.
