Spell gains  

Ingle has access to purify food and drink and now gains Protection from Evil (caster) 

Umbert has charm person and wants to study for knock 

Kylie has magic missile and downloads web 


20.2 Library quest

Umbert's opportunities to learn a level 2 spell are understood by Ingle and Kylie. 

Because of the gargoyle attack Ingle recommends protection from evil. Kylie has already decided on her Spell. 

Are elves clean-slate downloads of some master? Yes but it's more complex than just an avatar or android print. 

This means they simply "unlock" the secret knowledge as they go. Across levels 1 and 2 there are 20 valid spells. I roll with the right to veto. 19. Web. Yep I like that for Kylie. 

 

As for Umbert he's not against the idea  but he desperately needs to get to Yibh Espeque or Jon Coen arcanerie so asks both to support an expedition, with an intended stopover of a week. Alternatively to go all the way back to Starting Town, to use the Guild facilities.  

 

D6, Umbert prefer the latter, Kylie the Coen option. 

 

"Is it because of Jack and Ixegenia? 

No.

Umbert explains the Mertz position. 

 

Neither Ingle nor Kylie is sympathetic. Ingle can see Umbert's point, Kylie cannot. 

 

"It's a short day ride with time for courtesies, at the Lodge" Ingle sternly reminds the Wizard. "Even if you need to travel into the vicomte's home town after that, there's no additional complication as there will be if we go near Ixegenia! 

 

"The forest speaks to me. Water, roots, branches readying for sleep. I want to walk there again" Kylie says. It sounds as though she's trying to explain something but the boys find it easier to take that at face value. 

 

BTW yes and for Yormsley coming back into this arc! 

 

Timeline: it will be day 4 of waxing gibbous by the time the tax official Yeapich is satisfied with Ajiwe's health. Which is good? Yes. 

Then on that same day, the journey back, with the retinue, gets under way. 

 

Foraging from the marsh stream and nearby forest nets  only 10 supply. One of Hidden Springs needs is a steady supply of foodstuffs and firewood  

 

On the dawn of the last day of waxing gibbous the party joins Yeapich's banner back. 


20.3 Research / Huntswomen 

Morning of final day of waxing gibbous 30 days before solstice eve. 

Weather is hotter than comfort level. 

This will be a quick ride with no scouting. The slower members like Xantu and CiedPod have their ponies of course. Is it still a day's ride? No and just a watch ought to be enough. However checking the draft horse move per day I'm seeing 9mi so two or three watches might be a compromise. 

 

In the event there is no encounter, the convoy enters the hunting domain at the second watch. 3rd watch is taken up by stabling, and other admin tasks. 

 

Does Yeapich express any interest in the adventurers? no 

Is the vicomte in residence yes 

Does he have other barons guesting  yes but only the nearest.  

Are their banneret knights also in attendance no but... they are also hunting not too far away. (Around the Arvyx hills) 

 

Is Yormsley here? No and won't be until the event 2 days from now. 

 

Will Umbert meet Yormsley, headed west? No... 

 

We already know the full moon is when Yormsley strikes. Now, we also know Yormsley was stalking Br Solace. Let's check back on the acolyte. Has he come back? No. 

 

Day 1 of guesting. Full moon eve. Umbert may travel west. Is the vicomte's library in the lodge sufficient?  Yes. So no need to go back over the Arvyx hills.  

 

Level 2 spell research: knock. 

 

While Umbert studies, Ingle researches tales of magic sources. What might the library hold about lake treasure? I get "yes" so there is something useful. 

 

The major 1st obstacle is the piranha. Walking on water gets around that. 

Is there an islet in the lake? No but there is an entrance from dry land - or is it a grant from lake fey? Yes.  

 

A naiad or nixie can grant access. (OSE has nixie but not naiad) 

Could the mink actually be disguised nixie? Yes. 

 

Ingle will need 7 person-days to research the connection correctly. 

 

Day 2 of guesting. Full moon. Eryn and Kylie are invited to ride with the hunt.

Kylie 5 I want to try the hunt sword (d6) 

 

Watch 2 the weather unexpectedly turns foul. Fog and mist!

18.1 But can we take a level break? Eryn now uses a Sword+1. She puts aside the polearm.   [How does a +1 work? It permits a 1-pip movement of either penetration or damage, but not both. If you max off you max off, UNLESS you are attacking something with the same or worse AC such as AC8 for a sword, or AC6 for a  shortsword .]     NOTE if  the party ever does get to the dungeon of the bugbear regent, his best weapon is +2 and has no powers beyond the poison. 15.1 is this goodbye? Time: the morning of  the first day of the New Moon. In theory, if Kaelen is satisfied, she will arrange elite gear for them within 11 days, or by dawn of 2 nd  day of waxing gibbous. But we are not sure if she will be satisfied. War with at least one Dwarf Lord might be the immediate result, after all!     Let's put a couple of framing questions    Is kaelen delighted that the baron had to die   Yes and the party goes up in her esteem, especially when she hears about a dead elf.
