Rollohi-ep32-script
Will Ingle correct himself? First, do Xantu or Umbert correct him? Yes and, meaning both. He gets an advantage to the oracle. And with that advantage he blushes and steps back onto the path:
"Forgive me Ouzi you are an honest man. Ive been treating with knaves too often. No, we are not going to see the iscount as far as we know. But we will appeal to the gray beards."
With this correction, it's timely to check in on the "reuniting" majority as they trek south.
CON checks for the three that had very little rest. CiedPod are not weary and are riding, so no need to make any checks for them.
Eryn 11
Jack 17 (fails)
Kylie 7
Jack is down a hp and -1. Luckily since he met Eryn he gets a ride on her palfrey, she can walk.
We are picking up with the last segment of travel to the foresters lodge.
Weather excellent, much fairer than normal. If there is an encounter, it won't be weather related
Getting lost no and they can use landmarks to speed the journey.
Encounter no
Is the day over? Yes but for the last watch.
Its time for introductions discussions and plans.
Of course Wully is interested in the ant carapace idea but is there anything he could contribute no and he wants to go home!
"Ouzi, do you think you could escort Wully north to town?" - Umbert
"no."
"What if we paid you?"
"Absolutely!"
"Right, everyone who owes Wully for anything, chip in"
Eryn piles a few coppers, Ingle a silver, Jack frowns and refrains. Umbert says "ah Ingle, I was hired for three silver a month wasn't I?"
"Two silver," Pod smirks. Neither he nor Cied puts in anything and Kylie just looks blankly at Wully. Xantu grumbles and adds enough copper to round Eryn's up to a silver worth. Ouzi is disgruntled but he's said he will. So with that settled, the extended party sets watches. The (obviously) tired Jack and injured Xantu are excused, as is Wully.
Watch 1: Ingle and Umbert
Watch 2: eryn and ouzi
Watch 3: Kylie
Breakfast: CiedPod
Encounter: no
Dawn, day 1 of waxing half-moon.
Xantu has recovered 2 more, and is down 1.
Weather even better - a heat wave.
The party (noting the mounts are in not as good a condition as would be hoped) farewells Wully, and begins making a decision on how best to get round to the lake.
Does the east route lead through baron Yves Jhorne? No and his demesne would be north.
So the best theoretical path is following the line of the downs' eastern fall. But the many gullies would not be bridged. With knowing that they won't need to deal with Jhorne, east looks best. I'll take only a 1 or 2 as disagreeing with east.
Eryn west Ingle east jack east umbert east
Pod east cied west Kylie east Xantu west.
East is carried 5:3
There is no chance of getting "lost" lost but they might be forced too far north by the woods or lured into thinking they can cut a corner. Yes. Which way, into the woods.
Does the pace slow yes and eventually they realize its not a shortcut. Does it take more than one watch? Yes and three watches.- the whole day is lost.
Chance of forage yes and late berries and pipfruit are gathered, along with tasty herbs.
Encounter yes but natural only. The vagaries of woodland paths.
Watch 4, they camp on the north of the woods, but further east than last night.
Watches ErynIngle, UmbertCied, KylieXantu, JackPod
Encounter no and the weather stays unseasonably warm.
All hp are at full.
Day 2 of waxing half-moon. Weather cools somewhat. 15 on the Coen scale. Chance of getting lost no. Chance of forage no but fresh water springs and streams are crossed and used.
Encounter: yes. 7_8, goblin (city) or robber fly (grass/crop). Is the nearest town less than a league away no so grass/crop.
6 robber flies distance 110yds, attitude 3 fully hostile. Surprise: characters no but will not see flies that are stationary. Flies yes and do not see characters.
Night camp: are they still two days march from lake town? No and they have moved past the intermediate village.
Encounter: no
Dawn day 3 of half moon
Weather: back to normal early winter. 12 on the Coen scale.
Are they on a road yes but a backroad.
Chance of getting lost: yes. This does not mean they wander back into the wood, but they might go too wide east or west.
123 west, 456 east. East.
The road forks into another path which forks again. Within a watch they are uncertain whether they are on a useful path.
For fun, I'm picking up the Rural Locations card deck created by Ste Coffey and Loz Hensel. I did look first at their Urban set but they are very big-city oriented.
By doing the short-draw variation I get a ton of plots, but this solo game is not about to be derailed again when I am in the process of getting back to the main plan. Instead, I'm gonna go with the other encounter option I rolled before, but maybe flesh it out with a couple of the threads the cards held.
The inciting incident: a goblin raid. It aims at the monastery of the glad fields, a place where the monks have nurtured herb-growing meadowlands. Their ultimate master is the Bugbear Regent, but that's not necessarily what the goblins are aware of. They number 36 and are led by one hobgoblin, afoot.
Eryn is voted as spokesperson (by the girls, the lads are arguing with one another) and approaches the nearest cottage. She meets Agney, cis young woman, Eryn rolls 02 CHA Agney rolls 05
Eryn leads the party directly to the village (doesn't have a specific name)
Does this little place have a farrier? Yes.
(We may as well have those shoes looked at and get an estimate of time)
Eryn approaches the farrier who is at ease. Typical prime of life female, strong and good-looking. She's a little stiff and fomal with this heavily armored knight sort. Can the shoes be serviced in less than one watch? Yes but only just under.
Encounter: yes and it's bigger than just a tavern brawl.
Does this village have a name? Yes but hardly anyone knows it, because technically it is named as the manor of the local seigneur.
Shall we call it Horseshoe? Yes!
Time of day for the raid: first watch of night.
How does the alarm reach town: 1, belatedly by a hidden survivor 2, a watch late 3 or 4 by a nearby herder within (hour minus d#x10) 5 by an alert monk who specially fled 6 by a mystic instantly
It's 5, a monk detailed to be porter noticed the goblins infiltrating and set the monastery alarm going then fled to the village to ring the alarm bell. His name is Espree D'Roi.
Among the village there are few that dare challenge vile goblins. Are there any? Yes but they are happy to follow the party as temporary backup. They number 13, of which Ingle and Eryn choose four.
